Veterans Assistance

Did you KNOW that there is financial assistance for Veterans or their surviving spouses in Florida for non-service connected disabilities?

Many elder veterans think that they may not be eligible for assistance for veterans because they were not injured or incapacitated during wartime. NOT TRUE!

If you are a Veteran or the surviving spouse of a Veteran who:

1. Served at least 90 days on active duty and at least one day
   during wartime.

2. Was honorably discharged.

3. Meets financial and medical qualifications:

   1. Financial Net worth (home excluded) $80,000 or less.

   2. Income not exceeding maximum pension amount.

   3. Requires care or assistance on regular basis.

You may be eligible for the VA non-service connected disability pension of up to almost $1,700 per month through the Federal Government Veterans Aid and Attendance Program.

Many veterans are not aware of the program providing assistance for veterans!

Aker Kasten Home Health Care can provide assistance for veterans to make application with the Veterans Administration, and provide home care after completion of an application. We will assist the veteran or the veteran's family to determine if they qualify. There are several types of specific benefits providing assistance for veterans that may be available.

First, the Veterans Administration Aid and Attendance Program (A&A) provides a government pension covering home assistance for qualified veterans and surviving spouses, and assistance for living activities such as bathing, eating, dressing, transferring, toileting, and continence. This may also include assistance for veterans with personal care services such as meal preparation, bathing, grooming and dressing.

Second, the A&A can cover the services of a Care Manager to provide assistance for veterans or a surviving spouse with medication management, coordination of medical care, and coordination of services for their care and activities of daily living. The Care Manager can offer assistance for veterans in finding the right medical specialists, coordinating medical treatments, and organizing prescription medications.
